Reaction to the iColor Studio Wikipedia Article

The only edit to the iColor Studio, LLC article was that it was declared to be a "stub". I think that once my mom and I add more content to the article, it will probably lose the classification of a "stub".

Reaction to the Berlin Township, New Jersey Wikipedia Article

The Berlin Township, New Jersey article was overall a pretty inactive article on wikipedia. The only edit made to my entries was linking New Jersey Route 73 to its article page. Berlin Township was an important article to edit because it is the neighboring town to my hometown and it is important to differentiate it from Berlin, New Jersey.

12th Wikipedia Edit

I've made my final wikipedia edit to the article iColor Studio, LLC. I added the phrase, "because it offers high quality products and services at relatively inexpensive prices." I will probably work with my mom and continue to edit this article after this class has ended. Check it out!

11th Wikipedia Edit

I have made my final edit to the Berlin Township, New Jersey article. Under the transportation section of the article, I added the sentence, "New Jersey Route 73 also passes through Berlin Township." It is important to know that this route runs through the town because it is a heavily traveled road, especially during the summer because it takes many people to the entrance of the Atlantic City Expressway- which takes you to the South Jersey shore points. Check it out!

Class Material Post 4

In class today we learned about the basics of HTML. I think this is very important for everyone to learn and have a general understanding of. I thought it was a good demonstration to have one of my classmates create a website using HTML during class today to show how easy it is to create a basic website.

10th Wikipedia Edit

I have made my 2nd edit to the iColor Studio, LLC article that I created. I added the sentence, "iColor Studio designs are very corporate, sleek looking, user-friendly web designs as well as edgy, creative print design." I thought this sentence was important to add so that it is known that this company is very creative and professional. Check it out!

Class Material Post 3: Stiuqxela

In the beginning of class today, we talked about the "Stiuqxela" experiment. The top 3 entries were done by Chris Einkauf. He created an article about stiuqxela and linked other students to his article on e-zine. The students that are linked to his article are ranked higher when doing a keyword search on google for stiuqxela. Therefore, if Chris linked my blog as "stiuqxela" to his article, my blog would most likely be ranked higher in a google search.

9th Wikipedia Edit

I've made my second wikipedia edit to the Berlin Township, New Jersey article. I condensed the second paragraph of the education section into one sentence because the previous version seemed a bit redundant to me. The new version says, "Students from Berlin Township and Clementon attend Overbrook High School in Pine Hill for grades 9-12 as a part of a sending/receiving relationship with Pine Hill schools." Check it out!

Classmate Comment Post 2

After browsing through some of my classmates' blogs, I came across Kerri Angell's blog post on an article from Slashdot called, "Should Chimps Have Human Rights?". I checked out the article through the link she had in her post and I think its absurd for them to even consider chimpanzees having the same rights as humans and that they could be charged in the court of law. Primatologists think that chimps should be treated like humans because of the many similarities between the two groups. I just thought that this article was really weird and amusing at the same time... and I'm glad that others feel the same way that I do about it.

8th Wikipedia Edit

I've created the article iColor Studio, LLC. When speaking to my mom earlier in the semester about the wikipedia project about ideas for articles, she asked if I could create an article about her company. I just put in a brief history about the company and what the company does. It was much easier to create an article than I had thought it would be. Check it out!

Reaction to the Eastern High School Wikipedia Article

I also looked at the history to the Eastern High School article on wikipedia that I also edited earlier on in the semester. One person added another famous alumni to the page--Adam Taliaferro. Adam was a senior football player at my high school when I was a freshmen. The following year he was awarded an athletic scholarship to play football for Penn State. During one of the first games of the season versus Ohio State, Adam went in for a tackle and was nearly paralyzed. Today, he is functioning at 90% of what he could previous to the injury. He also wrote a book called "Miracle in the Making" which is now a required reading assignment for freshmen at Eastern High School. There was another edit that just cited some numbers I had added to the article. I'm really glad someone took the time to acknowledge Adam Taliaferro in the Eastern High School article.

Reaction to the Berlin, New Jersey Wikipedia Article

I reviewed the history page of the Berlin, New Jersey article that I have made three edits to on wikipedia earlier this semester. The only change that had been made since I made edits was that someone cited something I added to the article from the US Census Bureau. Other than that, the article has not been changed and my edits have remained in the article.

7th Wikipedia Edit

I have made my first wikipedia edit to the article, Berlin Township, New Jersey. Many people do not realize that there is a difference between Berlin and Berlin Township, New Jersey.. they are in fact, two different towns. Berlin sends its students to Eastern High School while Berlin Township sends its students to Overbrook High School in Pinehill, New Jersey. I made a change within the sentence, "Schools in the district are John F. Kennedy Elementary School for Preschool through 4th grade and Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School for grades 5-8." The first version read "PreK-4" so I changed it to "Preschool through 4th grade" because I thought it sounded better. Feel free to check it out!

Required Blog List Post 4

I also came across the article, "15 Year-Old Scams YouTube", on Slashdot and thought it also peaked my interest. The article states that "a fifteen year old from Perth, Australia, posed as an employee of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, demanding that YouTube remove hundreds of video clips of 'The Chasers War on Everything.' The amusing part is that The Chaser is a comedy company well known to perpetrate exactly this sort of prank." While this article was relatively funny, I also found it to be relevant to the Viacom vs. Google case that we spoke about in class. Viacom was demanding Google/YouTube to take down certain video clips from YouTube's site. It seems that YouTube has been dealing with not only Viacom, but other companies, with this issue.

Required Blog List Post 3

After reading through some of the blog posts on the required blog list, I came across the article, "Should Schools Block Sites Like Wikipedia?" on Slashdot. The post states that a school board blocked Wikipedia from the entire school, including teachers and faculty because the information on the site is created and edited by users; therefore, it is not a reliable or credible source. I thought this was particularly interesting because we are editing wikipedia articles in this course. I have used wikipedia as a research tool for initial research, but have not relied completely on the information provided on the site itself. I think that wikipedia is a good source to use as a starting point when researching and I do not think that the school system, or any school system, should block the site from its students.

6th Wikipedia Edit

I've made my 3rd wikipedia edit to my 2nd article, Eastern High School. I added the sentence, "There are presently approximately 2,225 students enrolled at the two high schools" to the article. I thought it was important for the article to state the number of students who are enrolled at Eastern High School.

STIUQXELA

The class is conducting an experiment on the keyword, "stiuqxela", to see whether or not it will come up as a result after doing a keyword search on google.

5th Wikipedia Edit

I made my 2nd Wikipedia to my 2nd article, Eastern High School. I added the sentence, "Eastern Senior and Eastern Intermediate are located on the same site, however, operate independently." The entry previously stated that there are two high schools-- one for grades 9 and 10 and the other for grades 11 and 12-- but it did not mention that the two schools were located on the same site. I thought this was important to note in the article. Check out my changes!

4th Wikipedia Edit

I've made my first edit to the article Eastern High School (New Jersey). I attended Eastern Regional for all 4 years of high school and realized that the article did not inclue how many students are enrolled at the high school. Therefore, I added the following: "There are over 1,000 students enrolled in grades 11 and 12 at Eastern Senior High School. Eastern Intermediate High School has approximately 1,150 students enrolled in grades 9 and 10." I think it is important for people to know how many children attend this school.

Required Blog List Post 2

The second required blog list article I found was also from Slashdot. The article is titled "Dogs Trained to Sniff Out Piracy". According to the article, two dogs from Northern Ireland have been trained to sniff out chemicals that are manufactured in optical discs. The dogs are doing a good job of sniffing out discs that are not claimed in customs and "are doing so much faster than human inspection of the cargo can do." I thought this was particularly interesting because I never thought that dogs could be trained to do this type of thing. Although there are some risks with this, it may be good in helping to detect pirated material faster.

Required BLog List Post 1

After browsing through our required blog list, I found an article on SlashDot that peaked my interest. The article was called "Ask Sony's Phil Harrison About PS3 and Games". I found this to be interesting because I just did a presentation on Sony's new game, Home, that is expected to be launched in the fall of 2007. Home is similar to "The Sims" blended with "Second Life." This virtual community lets players interact with other players using PS3 within the PlayStation Network. I picked the article to present to the class because the children I babysit are play "The Sims" and PlayStation games everytime I'm at their house. Although I'm not a gamer, I did have some interest in the article and Sony's new product because of the children I babysit. It also interested me because I don't understand who would want to play this new game, Home.

Class Material Post 2

I did a vanity search on my name, "Brenna Christensen", through Google. The first thing that came up as a result was the blog for this class! The 6th result was for a contest I won with NASA in 8th grade, "Space Settlement Contest 1999 Results". I thought it was interesting that on the first page there were 3 entries that actually were about me-- that is probably because I don't have a common name.

Class Material Comment 1

Today in class we briefly discussed the VALS survey (Value and Lifestyles Survey). I took the survey and was told I am an Experiencer/Innovator. The results stated the following, "Your primary VALS type is Experiencer, and your secondary type is Innovator. The primary VALS type represents your dominant approach to life. The secondary classification represents a particular emphasis you give to your dominant approach. Experiencers are motivated by self-expression. As young, enthusiastic, and compulsive consumers, Experiencers quickly become enthusiastic about new possibilities but are equally quick to cool. They seek variety and excitement, savoring the new, the offbeat, and the risky. Their energy finds an outlet in exercise, sports, outdoor, creation, and social activities. Experiencers are avid consumers and spend a comparatively high proportion of their income on fashion, entertainment, and socializing. Their purchases reflect the emphasis they place on looking good and having "cool" stuff. Innovators (formerly Actualizers) are successful, sophisticated, take charge people with high self-esteem. Because they have such abundant resources, they exhibit all three primary motivations and are the most receptive to new ideas and technologies. Innovators are very active consumers, and their purchases reflect cultivated tastes for upscale, niche products and services. Image is important to Innovators, not as evidence status or power bust as an expression, and personality. Innovators are among the established and emerging leaders in business and government, yet they continue to seek challenges. Their lives are characterized by variety. Their possessions and recreation reflect a cultivated taste for the finer things in life." I don't know if I would consider myself to be an Experiencer or Innovator based on the definitions given after the survey.

3rd Wikipedia Edit to Berlin, NJ

I have completed my third and final wikipedia edit to the Berlin, NJ article. When I attended Berlin Community School, there were CER programs for students. This was not mentioned in the article so I added the sentence, "Many Community Education and Recreation (CER) programs are held at Berlin Community School, including preschool and after school programs" under the Education section. Please check it out!

2nd Wikipedia Edit to Berlin, NJ

I have made my second wikipedia edit to the Berlin, NJ article. I attended Berlin Community School from 3rd grade through 8th grade. The population in Berlin has steadily grown over the past since I attended the elementary school because new developments have been popping up over the town. Therefore, I thought that maybe the number of students might have grown and the number on wikipedia could possibly be inaccurate. After conducting the research, I found that I was right. Therefore, I changed the number from 772 to 788 students. You can check out my edit of Berlin, NJ!

Commenting on Nicole's Blog

After reading through my teammate, Nicole's, blog, I was impressed that she was able to figure out how to create a new article on Wikipedia. She needed to do more research, post more information, and figured out how to edit using html codes. She also created an article that is of interest to many of the students in our class, Deer Park Tavern. I think Nicole is off to a great start with this article.

My First Wikipedia Edit

I have made my first wikipedia edit to the Berlin, NJ article. I have been a resident of Berlin, NJ since I was 8 years old. When I read the article, I noticed that the total number of students attending Eastern High School has probably changed. After conducting some research, I realized this was true. I changed the number of students attending Eastern High School from 2,131 to 2,225. Check out my edit to the Berlin, NJ article!
